Fascias, Soffits & Gutters
What Are They?
Fascias
Fascia is an architectural term for a vertical frieze or band under a roof edge, or which forms the outer surface of a cornice.
The horizontal "fascia board" which caps the end of rafters outside a building may be used to hold the rain gutter. The finished surface below the fascia and rafters is called the soffit or eave.
Soffits
A soffit is an exterior or interior architectural feature, generally the underside of any construction element.
In popular use, soffit most often refers to the material forming a ceiling from the top of an exterior house wall to the outer edge of the roof, i.e., bridging the gap between a home's siding and the roofline, otherwise known as the eaves.
Gutters
A gutter, or sometines 'rain gutter', is a narrow trough or duct which collects rainwater from the roof of a building and diverts it away from the structure, typically into a drain
Gutters prevent water ingress into the fabric of the building by channelling the rainwater away from the exterior of the walls and their foundations.
Slate tiles have been used worldwide for thousands of years and are recognised as one of the finest roofing materials available.
Although more expensive, ruffer roofing (EPDM) usually lasts up to twice as long as other flat roofing materials.
A properly laid fibreglass (GRP) roof will last for at least 30 years with no measurable deterioration.
The traditional, lower-cost flat roofing solution with a lifespan of up to 20 years.
